Review: Firefly 2 Portable Vaporizer

Is it time to upgrade your consumption method?

Dr. Ethan Russo said at Terpestival 2017, that the best way to get cannabinoids into your system is to vaporize whole flower. No doubt, you’ll get the best flavor that way and save your lungs from harmful smoke.

Just like a smartphone, the Firefly 2 takes a bit of setup right out of the box. First off, you should download the app onto your phone. The app is optional, but you’ll need it to get the best hits. From there, you can set the temperature of your device, which for me, worked best at 105%. (The Firefly temperature setting works on a percentage system. 100% would be no change from the factory setting. 105% is set slightly hotter than the factory setting.)

It may take some trial and error to get the best hits. For flower, one thing that I found made a big difference was the grind. You don’t want it too fine—like dust—but you don’t want it too coarse either.

I found that a quick twist in a grinder did the trick. If you’ve never vaped before, you might be expecting the harsh feeling of smoke and a giant cloud. At first, you might feel like you’re not getting anything. Wait a minute and see if you notice an effect. If you still feel like you’re not getting a good hit, adjust your grind and/or increase the temperature in the app.

Some other things to consider: allow the unit heat up for a few seconds before taking the hit. The Firefly 2 will blink while heating up, and you’ll see the bowl glow red. I learned that even after the unit stops blinking, it’s good to let it heat up for a couple of seconds longer.

Once the bowl is glowing red, I can get a big, satisfying hit and exhale a nice billowy cloud. The flavor is so rich and terpy, it's unlike anything you can get from a pipe or bong!

Once you get your Firefly 2 dialed in, and you’re able to get nice, clean, flavorful hits, you’ll never want to go back to a pipe and lighter again!
