Founded in 1893 as New Whatcom Normal School in Bellingham, Washington, in 1977, they changed their name to what we currently know the school as- Western Washington University. The main campus is located in downtown Bellingham, with satellite campuses also located in Lakewood and Anacortes. With around 16,000 students, WWU offers a wide variety of bachelor’s and master’s programs, including Business and Economics, Fine and Performing Arts, Science and Engineering, along with a renowned Philosophy department.

Western Washington University is an NCAA Division II competitor with their teams known as the Vikings. Because the school is on the smaller side, there are only 15 varsity sports currently being played at the university, six for men and nine for women. However, they are known for strong athletic programs and have won several Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Sports Championships.
